Saxophonist Steve Cole says that he and the rest of the Sax Pack -- which includes saxophonists Jeff Kashiwa and Kim Waters -- have completed their second collaborative CD. Titled The Pack Is Back, the new release is due September 29th on Shanachie.
With Cole in Chicago, Kashiwa outside Seattle, and Waters in Maryland, the three musicians work to create rhythms and concepts for the songs separately. Cole explained that the threesome waits until they are in the studio together to complete the melodies. He told Pulse: "We usually leave some of the melody to be sponatenous. We always record together. The last record we recorded saxophone by standing around one microphone and performing the music and all the harmonies and everyting in an organic way, so we all feel each other so to speak in terms of being in the room together."
The first The Sax Pack CD was released in March 2008 and featured the smooth jazz hit "Fallin' For You."
