As projected, singer Whitney Houston topped both the Billboard 200 and the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart this week with her comeback CD I Look To You. This gives the Grammy winner her fourth Number One pop album during her career. Houston, whose CD was released on August 31st, sold 305,000 copies during her first week of sales, according to Nielsen Soundscan.
I Look To You is Houston's first Number One debut since The Bodyguard soundtrack spent 20 weeks at the top spot in 1993. Her previous Number Ones were for her 1986 debut Whitney Houston and her 1987 follow-up, Whitney.
Houston's new CD was previewed with two singles: the title track ballad "I Look To You," penned by R. Kelly, and the up-tempo tune "Million Dollar Bill," penned by Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz.
